Dogs are essential for family life:

I had always had dogs when I was growing up, they were a major part of my childhood, Cindy, the Rough Collie ran around and followed me and fetched ball so that even though I was an only child, I never actually felt alone.

I know that taking the dog for a walk with my Dad was often an evening ritual that was so enjoyable so it also got me moving and as I loved my food and hated exercise, walking “around the block” was very good for me too.
